Very cool seeing the process. Phil is the master!
Got the exact same motor given to me after the death of my mother, Used to he her trollin/fishing goto motor before she had to go electric all the time. So it been a good 30+ years it did not run. Was in a shed so I will have a hard time bring in it back to life I am sure. Do you have a good resource for parts for it? A manual maybe?
Parts are still readily available. You can get them aftermarket or OEM from Evinrude. I’m not aware of where you would find a service manual for it but they are very simple to work on and I regularly bring them back to life that I’ve been sitting 30 40 years.
@@chrysleroutboarddude Thanks for the feedback. Will check with my Evinrude dealer. I really want to bring it back to life. As I took my retirement last year I go fiching a lot more and I found a place where there is a small boat available but there is no road to get to the lake. Since that motor is less heavy than my battery and electric motor combo It will be fun to use it. Sure beat to use the paddle also. ;-)
That's a beauty. Wonder what happened to the original powerhead, 100:1??
Is it really worth repairing dinosaurs?
Absolutely a restored motor like this will sell for double the price of a new motor
Yo where can you buy the replacement coils
Those 31 cubic inch motors are favorites of mine - especially the ones '84 and newer (thru hub) with 3-dog gears. I also like the 3-cyl. 50-75hp motors, '78 and later with the updated mid-sections which had integral trim and tilt. And then I also like the 60-degree loopers.............. and, and and. I'm sorry; I got carried away. Thanks, Ben.
That motor sounds great, Ben. It should be a screamer. 👍
They are such great engines my first introduction to them was in McGregor Bay Ontario north shore of Lake Huron east of Manitoulin island. I believe that's one of the first era Outboards that measure the horsepower at the prop and it was so much more powerful than the old 25 that had been on it.
Can you run these 15 hp Chrysler outboards without factory thermostats in 40 degree or less water, without any damage to engine, thanks for your time
sounds good
where do you find replacement parts
I have one but can't get it to start, when I pull the string it turns but no start. Can you help please. Has new spark plugs.
Wow you are on plan
One of the most reliable series of motors ever built in my opinion
I have this same motor and it runs great, Starts first pull. Only has about 100 hours total as it was on a sailboat. Now I cannot get it above about 300r rpm. Wont get the last boost to plane a 14 aluminum boat. New plugs. I think it may be the high jet s in carb. Ideas?
Is this motor a Chrysler force, or a gameFisher force? How can you tell the diffrence?
I have a firestone 7.5 special. Same motor
Just got a 1966 6hp chrysler. Any idea what impeller would work for it? Thanks
I need help finding the part that the pull cord wraps around. Like the black plastic piece that normally goes up to turn and start the motor. It fired up so fast last time it tore it in half and now when you pull the cord it doesn't spin the motor top. If anyone knows what I mean lmk. (Shot in the dark ik)
Excellent motors many still in use even in salt water.
Every time I back the cam follower behind the cam plate hash line it dies out and doesn't idle do I have to screw in the idle control knob to constantly keep slowest position with the follower lined up with the cam hash ?
I just got this same motor and the guy told me it’s 4 stroke everything I’ve seen says they are 2 stroke? So I should mix the fuel correct?
I need a pin style prop for a 1986 force 9.9. Please help me
What are the two dials for that are next to the choke?
How fast did it go?
Why would my water flow rate from the cooling system be low?
She's a beauty. Love those old outboards.
Amazing! That's a good motor!
Do you have to adjust the rich and lean ups?I see you gotta involve facing down
Great running Motor. I have a simmilar looking one, its rated with 18hp, it runs good, but at half throttle one cylinder is failing. Do you have any technical Datas, repair manuals, where can i get spare points and condenser? It is called a Tohatsu 18A.
Man, it sure is beautiful there, and no matter where you are in the world, sunrise is always the best time of day. Nice little motor. Great video. Best wishes to you all from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
Spent a lot of time with my fishing buddy and a 1.2hp gamefisher. We were young, had little money and my buddy bought it from a pawn shop. First time we took it out it died 100yards out. Turned out the condenser was bad and replaced it with a condenser from a 1948 Ford flathead. Never gave us a issue after that. Wide open for hours on end. Covered a lot of water with that little motor. Always got us back safe and sound in some rough water going into the wind. Something so simple played a big part of fun times as a young guy. After rowing that 1.2hp was a blessing. Seeing this video reminded me of some good times in a simpler time. Thanks for posting this.
Gorgeous ❤
1st, Rest in Peace Pepper. Pepper was the star of the show! Clearly, such a great companion. 👍 Onto some Yachting... Since Ben can do this with his eyes closed...lol I'll add to the concept. The factory setting on nearly all the metal 9.9/15 carbs is ~1 turn out from lightly seated. Neverless, it'll start fine at 1.5 turns out. The most important technique is to rotate the needle in until it begins to slow down(too lean) - make a mental note (like on a clock) . Then, back out the mixture screw(counter-clockwise) to richen until it just begins to slow down (too rich). THEN SET IT MIDWAY BETWEEN BOTH NOTED POINTS on the clock. After rotating the needle to the midpoint, pull out the knob and re-install with the tang facing staright down (6 o'clock). FYI-Normally, it's ~ 180 degree total difference between too rich and too lean. If you'd like to slightly richen it as many shops do, rotate counterclockwise (back out) ~5minutes if you view it as a clock. This process can start in neutral, but must be completed at a low speed in gear. I actually prefer reverse, since it's the toughest to idle at (exhaust gases), but forward is fine. A filled barrel is fine. In gear at idle stomp on the throttle momentarily, if it conks out, then it's slightly lean. 2nd test at idle, stomp on the throttle momentarily then immediately back to idle(closed throttle). If it conks after the abrupt drop to closed idle it's slightly rich (though it may be satisfactory in normal use). As Ben said, slightly rich is better than slightly lean. Next step...let it sit for 10 minutes off and it should restart without throttle. If it doesn't re-start, give it some throttle and retry. As these motors get older, there may be a compromise and raising the idle speed might be part of keeping your sanity. FYI- For the points motors '74-76 NGK B6HS, for the '77-1992's we've gone to NGK B7HS. Champion plugs seem to have a lower quality nowadays. We often will "Index" the plugs which allows for a bit better running at idle, especially if slightly rich, but that's a whole different topic. We stock index washers, so it's just a few more minutes of time. Hope that helps.
I just got one from a friend of mine to rebuild the carb and get it to run right.
Hello, I live in Turkey. I want to connect a steering wheel and throttle to the Johnson 25 hp sea horse model. Is there any product you can recommend for this? Is the construction phase difficult? Can you offer suggestions? Thanks in advance. 🙏🏻
Ok , I'm out of synch but I just wanted to thank you so much for posting that video ( I recently stumbled upon) about removing the OMC shift rod bushings by tapping them, srewing in a section of 5/16 allthread and effortlessly pulling them by turning a nut testing against a piece of flat stock layed on top of the gearcase. Yeah, I'm done with that endless fight with the slide-hammer. I say Ben for Président !
Any idea what cc these little motors have. ?
Hey buddy, i really appreciate what you do. I got a 1969 9.9 that i cant figure out why im not getting spark. I was only getting spark on the lower cylinder coil. Changed the top coil and now im not getting any spark on either lines. your thoughts in general? by the way i cleaned the points and changed the condensors. both coils are good, what else could kill the spark ? have you run into a problem like this with the chryslers?
